How do I reserve a spot?

You must complete the registration process in order to reserve a spot for the trip.

2. Pay your $250.00 NON-REFUNDABLE / NON-TRANSFERABLE deposit on-line
3. Submit all required paperwork
4. Complete payment of $1750 by April 15th

Passport

You MUST have a current US Passport or Passport Card, with an expiration date later than July 1, 2023, to participate in this project. We will require a color copy of your current passport be provided to us NO LATER THAN MAY 1st, 2023.

• A full Passport costs approximately $135.00 and takes about 4 to 6 weeks to process. Full Passports are generally valid for ten years from date of issue, depending on age of applicant. (Youth passports are usually only good for five year).
  
• You can also apply for a Passport Card, which is approximately $40 but covers only land travel in and out of Mexico (and Canada).

Lodging

We will be staying at a hotel in the Phoenix area the first night of the trip. While we are in Mexico, we stay at a beautiful condominium resort, located on the outskirts of town and right on the beach.

Please note, while we will attempt to house your individual groups together, it is not always possible to do so. You may be rooming with people you don’t know, even if some of your friends or acquaintances are with us on the trip. Unauthorized changing of rooming assignments will not be allowed.

What is the Cost of the Project?

Cost per person - $2,000 - which includes:

• Building material for the house
• Travel - this covers travel by bus from Utah to Puerto Penasco and back to Utah.
• Lodging in the Phoenix area and in Mexico
• Food - Most meals. Lunch while traveling and the last day in Mexico is not provided
• Mexico Immigration fees
• Rotary International travel insurance

 Who can Participate?

This is a Rotary project. While membership in Rotary, Rotaract or Interact is not a requirement, our specific focus and preference is youth from local Interact clubs, their advisors and parents, as well as interested Rotaract or Rotary members and friends from Utah. (Interact is a Rotary sponsored High School service club) All adult participants (21 and older) will be expected to chaperone a room of youth.

Is there an age limit?

Minimum age to participate in the project is 15 years old IF you are a sophomore in High School or 16 years old on or before June 2nd, 2023. Youth under the age of 16 can participate if accompanied by a parent. (Older siblings do not qualify as parent unless over the age of 21).

How Many Can Go?

We will cap our group at 75 youth, 20 recent high school graduates (graduating in 2020, 2021, or 2022) and 15 adults. (Less if we do not get the required number of chaperones) Apply early!

We now require that your group provide at least ONE ADULT participant for every 6 youth (or fraction thereof) coming from your group. Parents of the youth are welcome and desired.

We will do our best to work with each group, but we are unable to make the project work if we don’t have sufficient adults to provide chaperones and safe oversight for the youth. We will be unable to accommodate groups of any size that cannot or do not provide sufficient adult chaperones for their youth.

Once the maximum numbers are filled, registration will close. All other interested parties will be placed on a “waiting list” and will be allowed in if there are openings available.

How difficult is the work at the project?

This is not a vacation. It is difficult work in a hot, dry environment. There are cinder blocks to lift and lay, cement to mix and pour, rebar to measure and cut, wood to cut and nail, and sand everywhere. If you have medical or health issues that could be adversely affected by this type of environment, we suggest you abstain from participating.

What if I have medical issues? Can I still participate?

Remember that we will be in a foreign country. Even though we will have medical personnel on staff, we will not be prepared to take care of health maintenance issues for you.

Please abstain from apply if you have a health or medical condition that:

• Requires regular doctor supervision
  
• Requires multiple medications and/or maintenance of medical issues
• Does not allow you to commit to physical labor in a hot and dry climate
• Requires supervision by a qualified adult OR would be adversely affected by this type of activity

What should I expect each day?

Monday to Thursday we will be involved in house construction as well as participating in humanitarian efforts with local neighborhoods and elementary schools.

Each day will begin around 6:30 a.m. and will end when the job for the day is complete.

There may be down time at the condos and beach, but there are no guarantees. We are here to work.
